NPARKS & SPH Foundation Launches SUN CLUB Programme

Special needs children have more opportunities to admire and understand the nature now.

SPH Foundation is the main sponsor of a new nature appreciation programme by National Parks Board (NParks), “Special projects to Understand Nature” (SUN) Club, which was launched on 3 October 2006. The SUN Club organises nature trails to Sungei Buloh Water Reserve, Pulau Ubin and Bukit Timah Nature Reserve for students from special schools.

The programme was developed in consultation with the teachers from special schools, to allow the students, who can be intellectually or physically disabled, to understand and appreciate the best of nature. Currently, the existing nature outreach programmes are catered for the mainstream school.

The SUN Club, which is currently at its pilot stage, received overwhelming responses from the special schools. 500 students from Metta School, Grace Orchard School, Tanglin School, Delta Senior School and Chao Yang School would benefit from the pilot programme.

Interested schools can contact Ms Jeanne Tan of the National Parks Board, via email or call 6794-2414.
