SPH Foundation host National Primary School Tchoukball Championships for fifth consecutive year

Thirty three teams took part in the Junior Division of the SPH Foundation National Primary School Tchoukball Championships 2016 over 2 days. The fifth edition saw Junyuan Primary School and Farrer Park Primary School play host to the Girls and Boys categories respectively.

Organised by Tchoukball Association of Singapore (TBAS), the event comprises two categories, namely the Senior Division (for boys and girls aged 13 years and under), and the Junior Division (for boys and girls aged 11 years and under). The Senior Division was played in May, which saw 29 teams participate.

Tchoukball is a non-contact team sport that was invented in 1970 and emphasises on speed, teamwork and strategy. It involves a unique set of rules and elements of volleyball, basketball and handball. The sport can be played by anyone regardless of varying physical and sporting abilities.

Greendale Primary School defeated hosts Junyuan Primary School 9-7 to clinch the Girls' title. It was second time unlucky for the hosts as their senior counterparts also lost in the finals earlier in May.

It was a different story in the Boys category. Hosts Farrer Park Primary School swept aside Beacon Primary School 13-8 to win the Boys' title, regaining some bragging rights after their senior boys lost in the May finals.
